Richmond Hill students raise donations for Freeman project

RICHMOND HILL, GA (WTOC) - Students and faculty at Richmond Hill School gathered Wednesday morning for a Veteran's Day celebration. Students have been hard at work, raising donations for the Matthew Freeman project Pens and Paper for Peace.

Marine Corps Capt. Matthew Freeman, a graduate of Richmond Hill High School, was killed in Afghanistan a little over a year ago.

The donations were presented to Matthew's mom, Lisa, who started collecting school supplies for children in Afghanistan in honor of her son.

"This has probably been the highlight of my year because these were my students," Lisa Freeman told WTOC. "This is the field my son stood on as president and talked to people and got people excited for prep rallies and that kind of thing so to see them put their hearts into this and do this for me means the world to me"

Students raised more than $1,000 for the Freeman Project.
