Causton Bluff bridge to close next week for repairs

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - The westbound lane of the Causton Bluff bridge will be closed for repairs from Nov. 15 to Nov. 19.

Traffic will be shifted to the eastbound lane. The Georgia Department of Transportation recently conducted an inspection at the bridge and noted several deficiencies, according to the Chatham Co. Commission.

The Department of Transportation pointed out these problems to be addressed: locks need to be shimmed; shims need to be replaced between main stringers of both spans; bolts need to be tightened on both Hopkins frame; bull gear bearings need to be shimmed; center bearings on spans need shims; replace shear bolt on bullgear bearing, according to a news release.

    Subtropical Storm Alberto continues to bring heavy rain and a high risk for rip currents to the Gulf Coast.  Alberto is just west of Tampa and moving to north by northwest at 12mph.  Peak winds are 50 mph and no significant strengthening is expected as we head into Monday.
