SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A Savannah-Chatham Metro Police officer caught 22-year-old Jospeh Heilman and 24-year-old Elizabeth Querusio preparing to "tag" a building on Bay Street near the Abercorn Street ramp around 4:00 a.m.
The police officer reports that he saw Heilman with a can of spray paint taken from Querusio's backpack and pointing at a wall with his finger on the spray paint.
When Heilman and Querusio saw the police car approaching, they started to run. The police officer ordered the two stop over his intercom system.
Querusio showed officers other places where they two had spray painted a sign on River Street and a wall at Rousakis Plaza.
Inside their backpacks, police found spray paint and a copy of the Savannah city ordinance applying to defiling property with a section dedicated to avoiding prosecution.
Heilman and Querusio have been charged with interference of government property, possession of tools for commission of a crime, loitering and prowling.
Heilman faces an additional charge of criminal trespass.
