Deputies with the Bryan County Sheriff's Office have released the names of two people injured in an accident on Interstate 16 Friday morning.
Investigators say 39 year old Cameron Hegstrom of Brunswick drove his Geo Metro onto the interstate going the wrong way in the east bound lanes. Hegstrom's car was plowed into by a pickup truck driven by 55 year old Charles Fries of Savannah - after the car sideswiped two other vehicles and came to rest on the bridge over the ogeechee river. Fries was thrown out of the truck - but Hegstrom was trapped in the wreckage until firefighters could free him using the jaws of life. He was then airlifted to Memorial Health where he is listed in critical condition. Fries remains in stable condition.
The accident is still under investigation -- but Bryan County Sheriff's officials say alcohol and poor lighting conditions may have played a part.
