South Carolina firefighter killed

COLUMBIA, SC (WTOC) - A fire department mourning one of their own in South Carolina on Sunday night.

Chance Zobel, 23, was killed after he and another fire fighter were hit by a car while battling a brush fire on Interstate 20, outside Columbia.

The other fire fighter remains in critical condition at a local hospital.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a van slammed into a Chevrolet Impala, pushing the car into the median striking the two firemen.

"I think we're all are going to miss a lot about him. He was well mannered. You don't find a lot of young men with the mannerisms that he had," said Chief Aubrey Jenkins, of the Columbia Fire Department.

No one has been charged in the crash, but the highway patrol is still investigating.
