Governor visits Makeover building site

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) – Gov. Sonny Perdue visits the site of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Savannah.

It's day four of the project to build a home for the Simpson family on Abercorn Street. Monday's projects include the roof, dry wall, starting the siding, painting and installing cabinets.

The governor stopped by to shake hands with people working around the clock. Purdue was surprised to see how quickly the home is coming together.

Right now, the family is on a Disney cruise to the Bahamas. Construction crews are trying to finish in time for the big reveal on Rhursday.

A government lunch is scheduled for noon and at 6 p.m. kicks off the JT Turner Family Night.

About 120 volunteers worked into the late hours on Sunday. At about 11 p.m. Sunday, the windows were being installed.

Monday by 12 p.m. is the last chance to buy tickets online to the Extreme Extravaganza (www.ExtremeMakeoverSavannah.com/extravaganza). Tickets are $100 per person.
