Walmart begins hiring for new store

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Walmart has opened a temporary hiring center at 10010 Abercorn Street for its new store across from the Savannah Mall. The hiring center is currently accepting applications Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. They are looking for 250 full and part time associates, including supervisory positions.

The Walmart is scheduled to open in 2011. Employees will begin work in December to prepare for the grand opening.

"We are excited to add this Walmart to Savannah and bring good jobs with career opportunities to the area," said store manager David Henry in a news release. Henry started his Walmart career in 1998 as a produce sales associate. Henry started working for Walmart in 1998 as a produce sales associate.

Full and part time associates are eligible for healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan, profit sharing contributions, store discount cards, stock purchase program and life insurance. Associates can also qualify for company performace-based bonuses.

The majority of associates will begin work in December to help prepare the store for its grand opening in early 2011.

    Subtropical Storm Alberto continues to bring heavy rain and a high risk for rip currents to the Gulf Coast.  Alberto is just west of Tampa and moving to north by northwest at 12mph.  Peak winds are 50 mph and no significant strengthening is expected as we head into Monday.
