TIFTON, GA (WTOC) – Starting Tuesday night and running through at least this week, low visibility is expected due to the Arabia Swamp fire.
The fire is located north of S.R. 122 in Clinch County. Counties that may be affected are Clinch, Lanier, Lowndes, Cook, Berrien, Irwin, Atkinson, Ben Hill, Ware, Charlton, Bacon, Jeff Davis, Telfair, and possibly others depending on wind directions, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
Fog is also expected in southern Georgia each day.
Occasionally heavy smoke from this wildfire and shifting winds are periodically reducing visibility on highways throughout the area. Overhead and portable changeable message signs may be posted if needed to advise of current and anticipated conditions.
The DOT recommends drivers use caution particularly in smoke events and early mornings where smoke and fog may mix. They should also be prepared for possible long delays, unscheduled road closures and detours.
