Double aviation congratulations and thanks are in order this week. First, out of America's 250 smaller city airports nationwide, Savannah-Hilton Head International has been named "Airport of the Year" by the publication, Airport Revenue News. Congratulations to our Airport Commission, Airport Executive Director Patrick Graham, and his outstanding team, for the dedicated hard-work it took to achieve this significant nationwide distinction.
Next, huge thanks to the Gulfstream Aerospace family for their United Way of the Coastal Empire pledge of over $2-million, the largest contribution in the local campaign's history. Savannah and surrounding communities can't possibly thank our proud Gulfstream employees enough for this tremendous display of community partnership and support, long a hallmark of this great company. This on top of the announcement of a major construction expansion at Gulfstream, resulting in the planned creation of hundreds of new jobs. Along with JCB's 2011 announced hiring plans, as well as those at the new Wal-Mart here, this and other expansion in the region makes this a terrific time to be living here amidst Georgia's beautiful Coast.
