Students raise money for food bank

BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) - Students at Riverview Charter School are teaming up with the Lowcountry Food Bank to help raise money and awareness to end hunger. Through a school-wide service learning project, called the Empty Bowls Project, students are learning first hand all about hunger and what it takes to get food from the garden to the table.

The have even made their own ceramic bowls and are helping make soup for the fundraiser.

"Students made bowls and we're going to auction them off at a silent auction. The proceeds will go to Lowcountry Food Bank to give to people who need it," explained Riverview Charter School student Tommy Holloway.

The empty bowls project fundraiser is Thursday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Riverview Charter School in Beaufort.
