Utility work under way on well project

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (WTOC) - Hilton Head Public Service District is doing utility work Frodau at the intersection of Seabrook Drive and Royal James Drive in Hilton Head Plantation as part of its Aquifer Storage and Recovery Well project.

Drivers are being asked to use caution in the work zone and follow traffic control instructions.

The PSD is constructing an Aquifer Storage & Recovery Well at Royal James Drive to replace drinking water supply lost due to saltwater intrusion into the 150-foot-deep Upper Floridan Aquifer, according to the Hilton Head Public Service District.

The well is expected to be in operation by the summer of 2013.
