SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - When disaster strikes the Red Cross is always there.
Monday many of you came to their aid, helping WTOC raise more than $17,000 to help our local Red Cross.
Volunteers, Red Cross employees and even some of the families helped the organization on the lines to accept your donations.
The money stays right here in our commuinity, helping families when they need it most.
"We call them silent disasters a lot, because they affect one family at a time. As was it over the weekend, the fire on Montgomery Street, and people with nothing. This one little lady had all but her pink little longjohns on, cause she'd been sleeping. No shoes, nothing, and the Red Cross steps in," said Robin Wingate, executive director of the Savannah Red Cross.
The Red Cross affected more than 300 people per day last year in the 31-county service area.
