SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Celebrating a milestone in an already rich history, Savannah State University celebrated Founder's Day Monday.
Dedicated back in 1890, that's 120 of excellence. To mark this momentus occassion, President Earl Yarbrough presented posthumously the Richard R. Wright Senior Award of Excellence to former president and SSU alumnus Prince Jackson.
"Of course that's something that we'll want to cherish every year. The university's been doing it every year. It's important not only in the past, but it's also very important that our kids, our students, our faculty, the community knows about the heritage and history of Savannah State University," said SSU President Earl Yarbrough.
The university set a record this year, with more than 4,000 students in attendance.
