HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) - Lowcountry State Legislators are getting a jump start on the new year. On Tuesday, members of the Beaufort County Legislative Delegation came together on Hilton Head Island for their annual meeting before the start of the legislative session in Columbia at the first of the year.
Members heard from the community a number of different topics, including Preserving the Mitchellville Community on Hilton Head Island and grant funding for transportation in Beaufort County.
Lawmakers say this is a good opportunity to hear from their constituents before going to Columbia.
"People using the services, they have the best view points on these services so if they can give me the insight into what happened, their personal experience, was it a good one, could we improve, how does it work, did you feel like you were listened to, all good things for me to know when we go before different committees," said South Carolina Representative Shannon Erickson.
The South Carolina Legislatice session convenes the second Tuesday in January. There will be one new member this year, Andy Patrick from Hilton Head Island.
