CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - Chatham County sheriff's deputies are wrapping gifts that will go to children at Georgia sheriff's youth homes all over the state. Fund-raising for the gifts starts with a poker run in May. This year they raised $20,000, which is the most since they started the effort 20 years ago.
Each of the 70 children on their list will get three handpicked gifts.
"We break the list down and go shopping and online looking for some of the hard-to-find things like a red plaid belt for a little girl so, anything they want we go above and beyond to find," said Michelle Gavin with the Chatham County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies will be delivering their first batch of presents on Saturday to a youth home in Hahira, which is outside of Valdosta.
