Fire Destroys Rincon Home

A fire in Rincon has completely destroyed a home. It all started on Old Augusta Road in Effingham County around 8:30pm last night. Two elderly people and four children were in the house. It took firefighters nearly 40 minutes to get the blaze under control. They fought hot spots for nearly two hours.

Two teenage girls thought they smelled smoke earlier in the night, but couldn't find flames. A while later, they opened up a closet in the living room and found the fire. The great grandfather, George Preston, Sr., grabbed a hose and tried to put out the flames, but by the time he got back in the house, the entire living room was on fire.

Unfortunately, the elderly couple that own the home did not have insurance. If you would like to help out, contact the United Way by dialing 211, by cell phone at 651.7730, or call your local Red Cross chapter. You can speak with George Preston, Sr., directly at 663.9391 or 663.9438.
