Free smoking cessation classes offered in December

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - The Coastal Health District will offer free smoking cessation classes in December.

Classes will be held Dec. 9, 13 and 15, and registration is required. To register, go to and click on the "Freshstart Smoking Cessation Classes" link under Chatham County Health Department information, or call 912.644.5209.

On Jan. 1, 2011, the Savannah Smoke-free Air Ordinance will go into effect. The ordinance prohibits smoking in most indoor public places, including restaurants, bars, taverns and other places of employment.

The Georgia Tobacco Quit Line provides free counseling, support, and referral services for tobacco users.

Through the Georgia Tobacco Use Prevention Program, uninsured adults who live in Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long or McIntosh counties may be eligible for free nicotine gum or nicotine patches. Those interested should call the Georgia Tobacco Quit Line at 877.270.STOP.
