Historic banner goes on display

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) – The Georgia Historical Society is featuring a piece of Savannah history.

On Dec. 7, the historical society is exhibiting a linen banner that was paraded through the streets of Savannah in December 1860.  Referring to South Carolina, which had just become the first state to leave the Union, the banner declares, "Touch her if you dare!," according to the Georgia Historical Society.

The banner features symbolism depicting Georgia as one of a group of southern states ready to defend South Carolina from the federal government.
