Red Cross helps families after fires

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The American Red Cross helped two families after their homes were destroyed in two house fires.

The American Red Cross Bulloch County Disaster Action Team helped a family of four in the early Wednesday morning.

A child suffered second-degree burns, and the family's home on Lydia Street was destroyed. The child was transported via ambulance to an awaiting helicopter headed to the burn center in Augusta.

Bulloch Red Cross took care of the family's immediate emergency needs and is collaborating with the Augusta Chapter of the American Red Cross to continue to assist the family as they arrive in Augusta.

The fire in Bulloch County is the third fire in less than 24 hours that the Red Cross has responded to and provided help for families who suffered losses.

The American Red Cross Disaster Action Team is helping a family of five on Ropemaker Lane on Wilmington Island.

The home is deemed a total loss and the Red Cross is providing immediate emergency services to the family on one of the coldest nights of the winter season so far, according to the Red Cross .
