RINCON, GA (WTOC) - The Effingham County Sheriff's Office has arrested two people for starving a dog to death. On Nov. 18, sheriff's deputies responded to a house on Howard Avenue when they received an animal complaint.
The complaintant was cleaning up a neaby vacant property when that person found a deceased dog. Deputies found a dead pit bull that had been tied to propane tank. The dog had been dead for at least 36 hours before it was found.
A local veterinarian concluded that the dog died of starvation. Leaves and dirt were found in the dogs intestinal tract.
Dominique Dixon, 21, has been charged with eight counts of cruelty to animals and one count of aggravated cruelty to an animal. Heather Cordero, 28, has been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals. Dixon and Cordero were taken to the Effingham County Jail.
Eight more undernourished dogs were found at the home. They were confiscated during Dixon's arrest.
