Safe Shelter needs your help this Christmas

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Safe Shelter is looking for your help to make Christmas dreams come true for families suffering from domestic abuse.

This year, Safe Shelter's Adopt-A-Family program has had a very slow start and they are looking for folks to pitch in and help with gifts to put under their trees.

You can adopt a family or a single woman and the gifts go to the shelter and their follow-up programs.

About 40 families will be spending Christmas at Safe Shelter and Executive Director Cheryl Branch said some are just little kids, worried Santa won't make it this Christmas.

"We have this little boy at our shelter, he is 5 years old and he comes in my office everyday. He is obsessing and stressing that he is afraid Santa won't find him here. I keep telling him no, your letter got to Santa, it's magic and that is how Santa knows where you are. He is really worried about it," said Branch.

Safe Shelter families have children from infants on up to 18 years old.

Gift cards are welcome. To help, give Safe Shelter a call at 912.629.8888 and speak with Natalie Leggett, Doritha Rice or Cheryl Branch.
