International Paper awards Garrison $5,000 grant

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Garrison Elementary School of the Visual and Performing Arts is receiving a $5,000 grant from International Paper's Savannah Mill to purchase fiction and non-fiction books.

Garrison is a first year speciality school and the grant is important to help teachers focus on their art curriculum.

"We are proud to be a community partner and grantee for this project"  said Mill Manager Walter Chastang in a news release. "Literacy is one of the educational focus areas of the IP Foundation.  We realize that exposure to the arts is important in educational development, and combining arts and literacy is the best of both worlds."

International Paper will present the grant to Garrison Elementary School Principal Lynette Angelini on Tuesday, December 15 at 11:30 a.m.

International Paper's Savannah Mill has awarded over $35,000 or projects and programs in the areas of education, environment and employee involvement.
