Automatic sprinklers make for slick roads

Dean Forest Road Dean Forest Road

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The city of Savannah and the South Carolina Dept. of Transportation are urging homeowners and businesses to turn off their sprinklers during the cold weather.

City officials say they have responded to numerous locations where automatic spinklers caused slick road conditions creating hazardous road conditions. For more information, contact the Public Information Office at 912.651.6410.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is also reminding property owners who are near streets and highways to be careful about using lawn sprinklers during cold weather.

Water that runs off the property and into the roadways can freeze overnight and create slick driving conditions.

SCDOT is asking that property owners -- particularly businesses that have sprinklers turned on automatically -- consider adjusting timers to prevent runoff that could freeze up on the highways.
