More Georgians to hit road during holiday

TAMPA, Fla. (WTOC) - Holiday travel in Georgia is expected to rise 3.2 percent over last year.

More than 2.7 million Georgia residents will be taking a trip of 50 miles or more away from home between Dec. 23 and Jan. 2, according to AAA Auto Club South.

Holiday travel in the U.S. is projected to increase 3.1 percent from last year, with more than 92.3 million travelers, according to AAA Auto Club South.

Most Georgia residents will travel by car, which is up 3.3 percent from last year, according to AAA Auto Club South.

AAA expects the average price of regular retail gasoline in Georgia to be between $2.85 and $2.95 per gallon during the holiday travel period.
