Palmetto Electric hits new record for peak demand

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) – Palmetto Electric Cooperative hit a new record for peak electricity demand on Tuesday morning.

Peak demand hit 420 megawatts between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., which is up 4 percent from the previous peak of 404 megawatts set on Jan. 11, said G. Thomas Upshaw, Palmetto Electric's president and CEO, in a statement.

Palmetto Electric recommends setting thermostats to 68 degrees.  For every degree above this setting, consumers will add approximately 4 to 8 percent to their heating cost, according to the company.
