Port Royal Improves Fire Safety Rating

Some good news on a couple of fronts that could save you money, and save your life. In Port Royal, in Beaufort County, the fire department's upgraded its equipment, personnel and headquarters. The agency that keeps track of it moved Port Royal up from a class six to class three for fire protection. It means the town is in the top three percent for fire protection in the country, and that adds up to lower fire insurance rates. The average homeowner there should now save about 30 percent on insurance rates.

"We encourage every business or homeowner to call their insurance company to see what kind of break they'll get on their insurance bill," said Daniel Byrne of Port Royal FD.

Port Royal's made more than $1 million in improvements over the last few years.
