SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Students got a day of culinary education Monday at Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Coastal Empire.
It's part of the Kitchen Kids program, led by by volunteers: Executive Chef Kirk Blaine of Driftaway Café and Savannah Country Day second-grade teacher, Chef David "Catfish" Nash.
Ten second through seventh-graders from Blessed Sacrament, St. James and Savannah Country Day School participated.
The day culminated in a feast for the families staying at the Savannah Ronald McDonald House. Students also collected donations using personal fundraising pages.
"Cooking needs to be fun. It's not as intimidating as it might seem. A lot of kids think it's hard to go into a kitchen and cook real things. We're just trying to make it very accessible for them," said Chef Nash of Savannah Country Day.
Later they actually fed the families with their culinary creations. The Kitchen Kids raised more than $3000 for the Share a Night Fund.
