Two students recognized for excellence in the arts

TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) - Two Coastal Middle School students are being recognized for their skills in the arts.

Eighth grader Kayla Butsko received three honorable mentions for her photography, titled "Abandoned and No Longer Loved", "Relaxation Awaits" and "Nature's Sheer Brillance", in the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition. This was the first time she entered the contest. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is run by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, Inc. Each year, the organization provides recognizes 250,000 teens in grades 7-12.

Sixth grader Ami Palmer won a scholarship from Sponsors of New Talented Artists & Writers for her submitted essay and bassoon audition. The scholarship will cover the cost of private lessons and open up performance opportunities. Palmer was also selected as first chair bassoon for the District Honor Band.
