Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey L. "Torch" Thetford has been promoted to the command level of Colonel. He currently serves as the Commander of the 165th Mission Support Group, a critical element of the 165th Airlift Wing.

Col Thetford's responsibilities include directing all matters concerning civil engineering, logistics, communications, security, personnel support, emergency management, anti-terrorism, supply, family support, fire crash rescue for the 165th Airlift Wing and three geographically separated units. In addition, he serves on the Joint Forces HQ Staff for Strategic Plans and is a Senior Military Advisor on the Georgia Governor's Aerospace Industry Task Force.

His military service began in 1988 when he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force, attending flight school at Mather AFB, California. His career is replete with continued levels of ever-increasing responsibility to include serving multiple deployments in the War on Terrorism and Operation Enduring Freedom.
