A year-old missing persons case is now a homicide investigation. Last July, 24-year-old Angel Pino Rios disappeared without a trace. Police found his body this morning in Ridgeland, South Carolina. He had been shot to death and then buried in the Great Swamp area off Highway 17 between Hardeeville and Ridgeland.
Police were treating it as a missing persons case until Rios' uncle wrote a letter to police with some information on Rios' roommates, Robert and Rena Augosto. They had left South Carolina for North Carolina after Rios disappeared. North Carolina police arrested them and they led police to the body.
Officers also recovered a gun today that could be the murder weapon. The Augostos are in jail facing murder charges.
