Fire station tests mold-free, SFES says

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Savannah firefighters are returning to their south side station after it was closed for mold removal.

Firefighters assigned to Engine 7 and Rescue 2 are moving their equipment and apparatus back to SFES Station 7 at the intersection of Eisenhower and Sallie Mood drives, according to Savannah Fire and Emergency Services. Firefighters began relocating on Dec. 10 to the National Guard Armory on Eisenhower Drive.

The station was closed as a base of operations on Dec. 13. For 10 days, the station's mechanical components, including its HVAC system and ductwork, were cleaned to eradicate mold. Parts of the station's sheetrock walls and ceiling tiles were removed and replaced.

After the work was completed, the affected areas were tested to ensure the procedure was successful, according to SFES. Test results show the affected areas were mold-free.
