Cab driver killed in collision with SUV

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - An early-evening collision on Friday night left one man dead and two others injured. At about 5:30 p.m., a GMC Yukon sport utility vehicle and a taxi cab from the Executive Cab Company collided near Seiler and East Broad Streets.

The cab driver, 61-year-old John Maynor, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Memorial University Medical Center, where he later died. A passenger in the cab, and the SUV driver were both treated for their injuries and released Friday night.

Metro Police investigators say Maynor was going west on Seiler Avenue and did not stop at the intersection.  The SUV was heading north on East Broad Street and hit the cab.

Savannah Fire rescue teams had to cut the roof off the taxi to get to Maynor and his passenger. Metro only calls out their specialty accident investigation team for particularly bad accidents, especially those with critical to life- threatening injuries.
