Habitat for Humanity holding meeting

JASPER COUNTY, SC (WTOC) - The Hilton Head Regional Habitat for Humanity is holding a New Family Orientation meeting at M.C. Riley Elementary School at 200 Burnt Church Road in Bluffton. The meeting is for those living or working in Beaufort and Jasper counties that are interested in learning how to apply for a Habitat house.

"Many of our citizens live in substandard housing. In spite of working full time, home ownership escapes them. Habitat for Humanity is making a real difference in their lives, "said Family Selection Commitee Chair Linda Ferguson in a news release.  "Ownership of a Habitat house will provide hope for the future where there was once only despair.  Habitat makes what seemed to be the impossible, a reality for so many hardworking people whose ultimate dream is a better quality of life for their families."

For applicants to qualify for a Habitat home, they must go through a meticulous application process. They have to attend family workshops to prepare them for home ownership and help build not only their home, but homes for others as well. Homeowners must make mortgage payments back to Habitat and that money is used to build future homes.

So far, the Hilton Head Regional Habitate for Humanity has built 62 homes in the Brendan Woods area in Bluffton. All area residents are invited to the meeting. For more information, call 843.757.5864.
