Ga. tax panel to hold final meeting

ATLANTA (AP) - A panel weighing an overhaul of Georgia's tax code is set to hold what's expected to be its final meeting on Wednesday.

The Special Council for Tax Reform and Fairness for Georgians must make its recommendations to the state Legislature by Monday's start of the legislative session.

The panel is weighing whether Georgia should place the sales tax back on groceries, boost the tax on cigarettes or reduce the state's income tax. State lawmakers would have to approve any changes.
