3rd ID celebrates history with new book

FORT STEWART, GA (WTOC) – A new book will celebration the Infantry Division's accomplishments during the Surge.

The Center of Military History's "Surging South of Baghdad:  The 3rd Infantry Division and Task Force Marne in Iraq, 2007-2008" by Dale Andrade is the first in-depth study of counterinsurgency operations in Iraq during the troop surge, according to Fort Stewart's public affairs office.

Andrade is a senior historian in the Histories Division of the U.S. Army Center of Military History and is the author of the World War II commemorative brochure Luzon and several books, according to Fort Stewart.

A ceremony at 12:30 p.m. Jan. 10 will mark the book's release. A panel discussion will be at 1 p.m. will Lt. Gen. Rick Lynch, 3rd Infantry Division Commanding General and now commander of Installation Management Command; Andrade, and a panel of 3rd ID Surge veterans.
