Senior Citizens, Inc. to kick off blanket drive

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Senior Citizens, Inc. is kicking off their blanket drive on Monday, January 10 at the Starbucks on Broughton Street at 10:00 a.m. Everyone who donates a blanket will receive a coupon for a free coffee.

Thanks to a  $5,000 donation from Georgia Natural Gas, Senior Citizens Inc. has already started donating blankets to area seniors.

"Strategic partnerships, like the one with Georgia Natural Gas, help everyone in the community," said Senior Citizens, Inc. President Patti Lyons in a news release.  "The blanket drive helps keep seniors at home and independent and the support from Georgia Natural Gas helps more seniors lower their heating costs this winter. The seniors themselves remain warm and comfortable in the place that means the most to them - their homes."

After the kick-off, anyone can drop off a blanket at the following locations:

  • The Senior Citizens, Inc headquarters
  • Port Wentworth and Thunderbolt Senior Activity Centers
  • Starbucks on Montgomery Cross Road, Victory Drive, Broughton Street or at Abercorn Street in the Twelve Oaks Shopping Center

Those wishing to apply for blankets may apply at Bull Street. Applicants must bring a picture ID.

Senior Citizens, Inc. also provides services such as Meals on Wheels, Sterling Rides, Senior Companions, In-Home Support and the Ruth Byck Adult Day Care Center. The agency serves seniors in six Georgia counties.
