The Beaufort community is saying thanks to all of the men and women who protected our country during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Over the past couple of months, nearly 2,000 Beaufort Marines and sailors from both Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort and Naval Hospital Beaufort returned home from Operation Iraqi Freedom. Now, the chamber of commerce and the American Red Cross are making sure they know how much they're supported. That's why they're throwing a homecoming party this week.
"They're out on the forefront, risking their lives that we might have freedom and we are certainly glad to have them home," said Julie Dimitrov with the American Red Cross.
The welcome home party is this Friday, August 1. The festivities will kick off with a parade in downtown Beaufort at 6pm. The party continues at Waterfront Park with entertainment and free hotdogs, chips and soda for active military and their families.
