Security is changing for the Georgia Ports Authority. That was one of the topics at today's Rotary Club luncheon. The guest speaker was Coast Guard Commander Tim Close. He says, since the Coast Guard is now considered a part of Homeland Security, a lot has changed for the ports.
"We have warning teams that go out on board ships, search them, we screen crew members on foreign ships, both here in Savannah, in Brunswick, and also in Port Royal, South Carolina," he said.
Close also said the Coast Guard plans to assist with security for the upcoming G-8 conference next June.
