COLUMBIA, S.C. (WTOC) - The South Carolina Emergency Management Division and members of the State Emergency Response Team have activated the South Carolina Emergency Operations Center at Operation Condition 3 as a result of winter weather that is expected to effect the state on Monday.
OpCon 3 is the state's preparedness level when a disaster or emergency situation is likely. The South Carolina Emergency Operations Plan and the appropriate specific impact hazard emergency plan is activated, according to the agency.
The agency is urging drivers to take proper safety measures to handle frozen precipitation, hazardous road conditions and extremely low temperatures.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation crews are salting roads throughout the state. Drivers are being asked not to driver unless absolutely necessary.
