Freezing rain, sleet knock out power

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) – Several residents around the Lowcountry and Coastal Empire are reporting freezing rain and sleet Monday morning.

Some power lines are down due to the ice buildup in Reidsville and Millen. Ice was forming in Claxton, Bluffton and Pooler. Ice was developing on bridges in Reidsville.

As of 7 p.m. Georgia Power reported There are less than 900 customers in Waynesboro near Augusta and 150 in coastal Georgia (Swainsboro) without power. There are 1,100 customers in the metro Atlanta primarily metro south -- 800 in Jekinsburg & Jackson and 300 in Mableton and Austell.

As of 7 p.m. SCE&G reported 2,700 outages. The company said trouble spots are 1,500 near Summerville and 600 in Charleston.

There is still a good chance for freezing rain and sleet until mid-afternoon for inland areas but locations near Sylvania, Millen and Hampton could see some light freezing rain through the evening, according to WTOC Meteorologist Dave Turley.
