Beaufort to mark tricentennial milestone

BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) – Beaufort will celebrate its 300th year on Monday at the Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park.

The birthday party takes place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Jan. 17 and will include the Parris Island Marine Corps Band, live entertainment and cake. Local Marines will fire off a symbolic gun salute to the city, and Beaufort Mayor Billy Keyserling will recognize contributors to date to the ongoing Beaufort 300 fundraiser.

A permanent historical monument at Waterfront Park is featuring the names of those who donate to the Beaufort 300. For more information and to sign up go to

The party is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to make and bring a birthday card for Beaufort with their dreams and desires for Beaufort's next century. Paper and pens will be available at the Beaufort 300 table to record birthday wishes for the next 100 years.
