Builders excited to get started on Home Makeover house

BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) - Neighbors of the Home Makeover family said the show offered to put them in a hotel for the week, but most declined the offer so they could stick around and watch the builders in action over the upcoming week.

There was just a small portion of the volunteers helping build the Dickinson family's new home present Tuesday.

As most could probably imagine, the builders were pretty excited when they met the family.

"It was great to finally meet the family. We've heard so much about them. We were fortunate enough to be on the ambush with them, but to actually get to meet them and give them a big hug today was pretty rewarding," said Todd Hawd, builder.

There were so many people volunteering for the build that the show has started to turn people away.

But if people simply want to watch the build in progress, there will be a special place set up.
