Town council to allow carriages without fee

BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) - On Tuesday, the Bluffton Town Council decided against requiring carriage companies to post a $26,000 fee. The fee was designed to regulate and clean up after the horse rides, but instead police officers will keep an eye on the carriage rides and the company will be billed at a later date.

Two local stable owners want to start the company, but several residents oppose the plan, citing concerns over possible traffic accidents, congestion, and animal waste. Supporters say the carriages would brighten the old town area.

The town council approved the horse carriages on Dec. 15, 2010.
