SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The city of Savannah is asking for volunteers on Martin Luther King Jr. Day to help improve three homes in the Jackson Park neighborhood occupied by single-parent families.
Mayor Otis Johnson has proclaimed the MLK Jr. holiday on Jan. 17, as a Day of Service in Savannah, which calls on people to join community service projects on that day and throughout the year.
City employees, members of City Council, and officials from Volunteer Savannah will be attending the Jackson Park event. Volunteers should register at the kickoff at 9 a.m. at 830 W. 53rd St.
The public is being encouraged to pursue other volunteer opportunities elsewhere on the Day of Service. To find out about volunteer opportunities, call Hands on Savannah at 912.651.7726 or go to handsonsavannah.org.
