SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Sunday was a big night for one Savannah family, as the Simpson family showed off their brand-new home, inside and out on national television.
They were the winning family for the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Savannah.
It was a packed house at the Trustees Theater as folks saw how the home all came together with the help of thousands of crew members and volunteers.
Madeline Toelke says, "It's awesome to be able to come here and show our support. They came to our town to show their support, so we can be here as a community, as a whole. So, it's awesome."
Also on Sunday, the Simpson family greeted more guests at their church as a part of a pre-show reception party. The Simpsons thanked those who helped build their new home and made some of their wishes for the community come true.
Carmen Simpson says,"I'm watching the previews, and I'm like 'man, that really did happen.' It seems so unreal and we're so grateful and thankful for everybody who was involved, from picking up trash during the build. People have a lot of reason to be proud of what happened here in savannah."
All of the proceeds from the event will go to the Ronald McDonald House, where the family stayed in 2008 after their son, Zoe was born with a condition called hydrops.
