CHATHAM COUNTY, GA (WTOC) - Former State Senator Eric Johnson is helping Garden City once again to try and get the Southbridge annexation on a ballot. He says the homeowner's association is unanimous about the idea and that they were so close the last time in getting the neighborhood as part of the city that it's worth taking up again.
"It diversifies their land use; makes them more residential, less industrial. It gives them a brand name neighborhood and a golf course. So there's a lot of good things for Garden City, Southbridge. It gives them lower property taxes and more influence over those that represent them," Johnson told WTOC .
Earlier this month, after the year-long petition process, Garden City said it decided to not proceed and risk burdening taxpayers with a threatened costly and legal fight.
