A judge has ruled that the man charged with killing two Beaufort County sheriff's deputies is mentally competent to stand trial. Tyree Roberts is charged with killing Lance Corporal Dana Tate and Corporal AJ Coursen in January of 2002.
Both deputies were shot when they went to investigate a domestic incident in Burton, South Carolina. The judge set a bond of $350,000 for Roberts. His trial has been set for October and prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
