16-year-old accused of murder denied bond

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Police say the community played a crucial tole in catching a 16-year-old police say killed a respected man in his 70s.

Trevonte Edwards appeared in court on Friday. He has been charged with three counts of armed robbery and murder. The charges are for the murder of John Green.

Green was leaving Chu's Convenience Store on Saturday, Jan. 8 when he was robbed and shot in the parking lot.

"Unfortunately it's not uncommon. I mean if we lose our youth along the way, they're libel to do things that are tragic. It's tragic that a kid could be involved in this, but it's an example of what happens when we don't help these kids. They get lost and this kid got lost," said SCMPD Detective Josh Hunt.

Edwards was denied bond. He will be back in court next month.
