3 arrested in connection with AC unit thefts

EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) – Three men have been arrested in connection with thefts of air conditioner units.

At about 4 a.m. Thursday, Effingham County sheriff's deputies were called to Foxbow Farms off of Highway 80 on a report of a suspicious person in the area.

Deputies found three men who had stolen property that was taken from homes in the area, according to the sheriff's office. They are also connected to other thefts and thefts of air conditioners in the south Effingham area, according to the sheriff's office.

Mathew Coleman, 20, of Eden; Kenneth Chapman, 18, of Eden; and Michael Almasri, 18, of Eden; were charged with multiple counts of felony theft by taking, possession of tools during the commission of a crime, criminal damage to property and burglary.

Deputies believe they were taking stolen items and reselling them at recycling businesses.

The investigation is continues into the thefts. More charges are expected.

They are being held in the Effingham County Jail.
