MCAS preparing for F-35s

BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) - Plans are moving along to bring the F-35 Joint Strike Fighters to Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort. The Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southeast is preparing to award an $80 million contract by the end of March.

It will cover improvements to the base, including a new pilot training and simulation facility and a new hanger for the F-35 Join Strike Fighter which will be replacing the F-18 Hornets.

MCAS Beaufort will also welcome two pilot training squadrons and three active duty squadrons.
